New Technical Note Available
A new technical note has been made available which provides a comparison of FTDI's IC products to assist customers in selecting the correct IC for their application.  The document is available from our Documents section.

A document describing using a Vinculum VNC1L to interface to a USB Printer has been published.  The document is available from our Application Notes section.

New Technical Note Available
A new technical note has been made available describing how to add custom VID and PID combinations to the FTDI Linux VCP driver.  The document is available from our Documents section.

USB-RS232 Cables Available
New USB-RS232 cables and USB-RS232 PCBs are now available from FTDI.  These cables have an FT232R and RS232 level converter housed in the moulded USB connector with integrated Tx and Rx LEDs. 

Cables are FCC, CE and RoHS compliant. The USB side of the cable is USB powered and USB 2.0 full speed compatible.  Each cable is 1.8m long and supports a data transfer rate up to 1 Mbaud.

 

DLP Design Competition

Visit FTDI at Electronica 2008
FTDI will be exhibiting at Electronica 2008 in Munich, Germany from 11th November to 14th November.  FTDI engineering and sales staff will be available in Hall A5 at Stand 351 to discuss the complete FTDI product range.

D2XX Programmer's Guide Updated
The D2XX programmer's guide has been updated.  The revised document is available to download now from the Programming Guides section.

New Application Notes Available
Three new application notes have been published.  These are:

  • AN_103 FTDI Driver Installation for Windows Vista
  • AN_104 FTDI Driver Installation for Windows XP
  • AN_105 FTDI Device EEPROM Programming Using the Vinculum VNC1L.

These are available for download in the Application Notes section.

 

  News - 19th September 2008

FTDI Distributors at Exhibitions
Several exhibitions will be attended by FTDI distributors over the coming weeks.  These are:

  • October 1st-2nd 2008 - ESS, NEC, Birmingham, UK
    Alpha Micro will be present with FTDI engineering staff.  They will be located at Stand 509, Hall 8.
  • October 1st-3rd - Tekniikka 2008, Jyväskylä Paviljonki, Finland
    ACTE Oy will be present at stand D-123.
  • October 7th-12th - CeBIT, Istanbul, Turkey
    Fides (Polar Engineering) will be exhibiting at Booth T11, Hall 3.

Each will be showcasing the FTDI product range of ICs and modules.

FTDI will also have its own stand at ESC (Embedded System Conference) Boston, Boston MA, USA on October 28th and 29th

FTDI To Attend IIC Taiwan 2008
FTDI will be attending the IIC Taiwan 2008 exhibition at the Taipei World Trade Center, Hall 2 from 9th September to 11th September.  FTDI staff will be available at stand 2C05 to discuss the full range of ICs and modules available.

New Technical Notes Available
Two new technical notes have been made available in the Documents section.  The first technical note (TN_100) provides guidelines for the use of USB VIDs and PIDs.  The second technical note (TN_102) is concerned with OEM technical support requirements.

Two new application notes have been made available in the Documents section.  The first application note illustrates the operation of the FT232R and FT245R devices with an external oscillator, the second provides information on the Microsoft WHQL driver certification process.

  News - 25th July 2008

FTD2XX .NET Interface Available
FTDI has produced a fully managed .NET wrapper DLL for the FTD2XX library on the Windows platform.  The FTD2XX_NET library can be added as a reference to any .NET project to provide a simple interface to the classic D2XX functions. 

Sample code in C# is also available, demonstrating data loopback and EEPROM reading and writing.  The FTD2XX_NET DLL has a companion file, FTD2XX_NET.XML, which contains the documentation for the interface.  This can be viewed either as Intellisense comments as the code is written or in the Visual Studio Object Browser.

The .NET wrapper and samples are available on the C# projects page.  Please note that the CDM driver must be installed to use this library.

 

Vista Sidebar Gadget Available
A Vista sidebar gadget to display available FTDI COM ports is available to download from the utilities page.  The COM port list is updated to reflect changes when devices have been added or removed.  To install the gadget, simply double click the file.

 

  News - 15th July 2008

New Product: USB-Key Available
The FTDI USB Key is security device which has a unique identification number burnt into it during manufacture.  This is the FTDIChip-ID™ number.  This FTDIChip-ID™ number is only readable over the USB interface making it an ideal “key” for “unlocking” particular applications.

The USB-Key is compatible with both the FTDIChipID DLL and the SafeGuard-IT ActiveX control.

 

Updated Datasheets
The datasheets for the FT232R and FT245R devices have been revised to include updated information on operation at 3.3V.  The new documents are available from the datasheets section.

FTDI are please to announce their presence at the following events in 2008:

FTDI PFOS Statement
FTDI have released a statement to certify the non-use of perfluorooctane sulfonates (PFOS) in all current and future ICs.  The statement confirms that no more than the regulation amount of 1000ppm will be present in FTDI devices.  The statement is available as a PDF document on the materials content documents page.

FTDI To Co-Exhibit at ESEC, Tokyo, Japan
FTDI will be co-exhibiting with Japanese distributor Daito at the
Embedded Systems Expo(ESEC) show at the Tokyo Big Sight from May 14th to May 16th.  FTDI staff at the exhibition will be available to demonstrate the range of ICs and modules available form FTDI, including the Vinculum V-Eval evaluation board.  FTDI and Daito can be found at Booth East 31-25.

USB to USB Null Modem Cable Available
FTDI are pleased to launch the new USB to USB Null Modem Cable (p/n: USB NMC-2.5m) today, at ESC Silicon Valley San Jose.

Using an approach that was established using legacy RS-232 serial COM ports when the PC industry was in its infancy, the USB NMC-2.5m offers a quick and convenient method of inter-PC communication using USB ports.  Together with FTDI’s Virtual COM port (VCP) drivers, the USB NMC allows the use of common terminal emulation programs such as HyperTerminal for COM port-based communication at up to 3M baud.

New Microsoft Certified CDM Driver Available
FTDI are pleased to announce the availability of a new Microsoft WHQL certified CDM driver.  The latest CDM driver (2.04.06) has been certified for the following versions of Windows:

  • Windows Server 2008
  • Windows Server 2008 x64
  • Windows Vista
  • Windows Vista x64
  • Windows XP
  • Windows XP x64
  • Windows Server 2003
  • Windows Server 2003 x64
  • Windows 2000

The driver is available in a ZIP file or as a setup executable for default VID (0x0403) and PIDs (0x6001 and 0x6010).

V-Eval Board Available
FTDI are pleased to announce the availability of the V-Eval Vinculum VNC1L development board.  With a large prototyping area, the V-Eval board provides everything needed to develop and debug a VNC1L based design.  Using the VEVAL application it's easy to send commands to the VNC1L, reprogram the VNC1L firmware or debug UART communication by using the "spy" mode which allows analysis of data sent to and from the VNC1L UART.  The V-Eval is available now from the FTDI Chip Shop.
